Fishing motors at the best prices

Bestselling electric stern drives

Popular electric rear engines

"What stern drive electric motors are available for my boat?" - You can easily find the right type of motor and the right model for your boat in the categories. Here you will find almost all manufacturers and models available on the market for maritime applications.

Stern engines are mainly suitable for small inflatable boats, rowing boats, or even sailing boats. Usually, the motors can move boats from 200 kg to 2 tons solidly and offer a cheaper alternative compared to outboard motors, which is quite sufficient for the demand.

You are not sure which electric rear engine is best suited? Give us a call! We have a total of 40 different electric drives from 2 manufacturers.

Special features of electric rear engines

Electric rear engines are available in a small power range. You will find all variants from 0.2 kW up to 2.5 kW (4 HP) power in our shop. You will also find higher quality outboards from 1 kW in the corresponding category. Depending on the boat, you will need about 1-2 kW power per tonne in displacement mode, and exponentially more in gliding mode.

The control of your rear engine is on the one hand possible via the tiller directly on the engine. This is also by far the most common variant. On the other hand, you can of course also control the electric motor with remote control with your foot. This is especially suitable for anglers to keep their hands free for the rod.

Compared to Outboardn the models are mostly not Plug & Play, but cheaper. The rear engines are usually used with a lead or AGM battery. Alternatively, small lithium batteries are also possible. These are lighter, more durable, and a bit more expensive. Depending on the application, we recommend modern lithium batteries or a deep cycle AGM battery for maritime applications.

For the sterndrive engine, the immersion depth of the propeller and thus the shaft length plays an important role. The immersion depth is usually adjustable for optimum settings. For motorboats or inflatable boats, you tend to need a shorter shaft with 76 cm or 91 cm. For sailboats, a longer shaft with a length of 107 cm is usually more suitable.

Differences between the individual drives - What do I have to pay attention to?

The selection criteria vary depending on the boat and application. One of the most important criteria for us is the volume. There are e-drives with gears that produce a high-frequency whirring sound. These are significantly quieter than combustion engines, but still relatively loud.

Usually all rear engines are noiseless, with them absolutely nothing can be heard. We find quietness on your boat and nothing should disturb you while fishing. You can also find the information with the individual products or you can filter them. Most boaters use the stern motors when fishing. There are also some differences between the electric motors. In any case, you should note the differences between step gears and continuously variable gears. We recommend the stepless gearshift because of the lower consumption. Especially in the partial-load range, these engines are much more efficient and so you have a higher range with the same battery.

Otherwise, there are various features such as the foldable tiller, stable brackets, or a particularly break-resistant material. Of course, a battery indicator, integrated GHP signal, lower consumption, or, if necessary, a special protective layer for use in saltwater are also important features to consider.

Sterndrive engines are designed for private use in leisure time for small boats and fishing. Frequent drivers should use a classic electric outboard. In this area, Torqeedo, ePropulsion and Aquamot offer the best conditions with an unbeatable price-performance ratio. For commercial purposes, other outboards from Kräutler, Aquamot, or edyn are relevant.

Electric rear engines - Which manufacturers are there?

Most boat owners know Minn Kota with its modern design and the combination of yellow and black. Minn Kota is an American brand. Minn Kota is the market leader in electric boat drives and has brought thousands of electric drives to boaters worldwide. Minn Kota has been around since 1934 and has been exported all over the world ever since. The best marine products in the field of stern engines for anglers and smaller motorboats come from Minn Kota. Of course, there are other manufacturers as well. There are still Rhino (Zebco) engines or the models from Haswing and Motorguide (Mercury).

The engines in the lower power range and are even cheaper compared to the combustion engines in this range and have replaced the internal combustion engine for a long time. Especially since batteries can be used without problems from the car area. Inform yourself here best about the requirements.

There are also still very unknown manufacturers who offer their engines on Amazon, for example. We do not have any application examples available. We are open to new models on the market but tend to recommend a high-quality motor. It's not for nothing that the saying goes: "Buy cheap and you buy twice."

Advantages and disadvantages of electric rear engines

On the one hand, electric outboards have the conventional advantages of an electric motor. The electric fishing motors are quiet, clean, and very efficient. In addition, the engines have much better handling, maneuverability, and more thrust in the lower speed range. E-Boat engines are also cheaper to maintain, safer than combustion engines, and also environmentally friendly. As neither oil nor petrol is needed, transport is much less problematic because nothing can leak.

Especially for anglers, there is no way around the stern engines. Besides the easy use, the good price-performance ratio, or the modern features, there are also many possibilities for upgrading. Suitable for the engines are also echo sounders or autopilots available from us.

Rear engines are easy to (dis)mount. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. They are much more flexible and can be removed after driving or for wintering. The disadvantage is that rear engines are stolen more often. Don't worry: there are other ways to protect the engine against theft besides dismantling!

Installation of an electric rear engine

Sterndrive engines are especially common on smaller boats and inflatable boats up to 4 HP, but of course, smaller sailboats are used. The components electric motor, driveshaft and, if necessary, a gearbox of the motor are installed in one housing to save space.

The installation of a stern engine is uncomplicated at the engine transom, which is located at the stern of the boat. Hence the name. It is attached by means of clamping screws or bolts. Depending on the weight of the engine, this is easy, especially for engines up to 2.5kW (4 HP), and can be done by a layman.
